Tim Cutts, Executive Secretary, Allen Lane Foundation

Tim joined the York-based Foundation in 2007. It was founded in 1966 and supports groups and organisations across the UK supporting unpopular causes including refugees, people with mental health issues and offenders and re-offenders, amongst others. Tim previously worked at Bradford and Sheffield City Councils, as well as five years at the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and over three years at the European Secretariat Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber. He joined the Yorkshire Grant Makers’ Forum steering group in 2014 and also supports the work of WREN, distributing Landfill Tax Credits in Yorkshire. Tim lives in Sheffield and is the Voluntary Treasurer for the Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cricket League.

Jan Garrill, Chief Executive, Two Ridings Community Foundation

Jan has been Chief Executive of Two Ridings Community Foundation since September 2014. She has overseen significant growth and success for Two Ridings, including bringing in over £6m of new funds for the region, including the £1.8m raised for the York and North Yorkshire Flood appeal following the Boxing Day 2015 floods. Prior to joining Two Ridings, Jan had senior roles in the public sector and worked in marketing including working at Sage, Stagecoach and for herself. Jan is a UK Community Foundations Board member, fellow of the RSA and Langwith College, University of York. Jan chairs the HEY100 Steering Group and is a member of the Hull Place Board.

Carla Marshall, Trust Manager, Sir George Martin Trust & Co-ordinator of YGMF

Carla has run the Harrogate-based Sir George Martin Trust and been on the Yorkshire Grant Makers’ Forum steering committee since 2013. The Trust was formed by Sir George Martin in 1956 and gives grants to registered charities which strive to improve the lives of people living in West and North Yorkshire. Prior to her position at the Trust, Carla worked in the PR industry for 20 years, starting out in the Cancer Research UK press office. Carla is a Trustee of the Leeds Building Society Foundation and volunteers with The Ramblers Walking for Health scheme.

Stephen Robinson, Contracts Manager, Nova Wakefield

Stephen is better known as the former Regional Manager for Lloyds TSB Foundation in Yorkshire and the Humber, a role he carried out from 1999 to 2007. Stephen has been a member of the Yorkshire Grant Makers' Forum since 1999. Prior to this he had a successful banking career, managing branches in Richmond and Middlesbrough, before progressing to a national project managerial position. Stephen is a keen golfer and also volunteers for Samaritans.

John Ward, Chairman, Charles & Elsie Sykes Charitable Trust

John has experience as Treasurer and Secretary of charities, as well as being a Trustee. He has been the Chairman of the Charles and Elsie Sykes Charitable Trust since 2000 and a Trustee for over 20 years. Charles Sykes was a manufacturer of knitting wools in Bradford and set up the Trust over 60 years ago, with the aim of helping young people, the elderly and those with total disability, as well as funding medical research. Grants are made to registered charities predominantly in the Yorkshire region, although medical funding is directed to centres of excellence throughout the country. John has attended the Yorkshire Grantmakers' Forum events for many years and has been on the steering committee since 2011.

Kaye Wilson, Trustee, Wharfedale Foundation & Funding Advice Support Worker at Voluntary Action Leeds

Kaye is a Trustee of the Wharfedale Foundation which supports charitable initiatives in the Yorkshire and Humber area that address the divisions in society by developing greater understanding of social justice and diversity. Kaye has worked in the third sector for over 25 years, mainly training and supporting voluntary, community and faith groups to access a range of funding sources and become more sustainable. She worked for over 20 years for the Charities Information Bureau based in Wakefield and since 2016 she has been a funding advice worker supporting small community groups at Voluntary Action Leeds. Kaye is also involved in the region’s Funding Advice Worker Network.
